Although we have tested the new site on as many browsers I could get my hands on there still may be occurances where the site layout looks strange. Contact us about this in the contact link on the right hand menu and we may be able to help you. - Is this site Free?
No, this site has a £2.99 one off charge for maintenance of the site (and cost of the server).
- Will my golf course be available?
Even if it is not, any registered user can enter there golf club so they can enter rounds.
- Is this available worldwide?
Although we are based in the UK, there is no reason why the site can't be used throughout the world. - Do you use my information?
We (the administrators and owners of this site) reserve the right to use your information for marketing purposes for Online Golf Stats.
- What if I see a bug?
Please report it, we welcome any feedback for the site, bugs or new featurea are all welcome.
- Who created this site, and why?
The site was created after I needed somewhere to record my golfing rounds (in 2003). I initially created a web page to record my statistics as I needed an easy way to record the information but didn't want to be stuck with a particular application. Soon after creating the site it became apparent of the useful nature of a golf recording site. So a colleague helped with the technical aspect and together we created this site as much a need for ourselves as much as others.
It soon became a larger concern hence releasing it as a full web site for people to record stats and gain information from it. The site can get very busy, and has been reviewed in various golf magazines as a good place to record your rounds for free.
- Can I link to your site?
Please do, if you can let us know we would appreciate it (helps when figuring out the log files) but we are happy for other sites to link to us and if you email us we can supply a graphic for the link too.
- I would like to advertise on your site, what do I do?
Email us, we can let you know the details. We are always welcoming advertisers.
- Where do you get your golfing information?
Mainly it is from professional golfers, but on occasion it is gleaned from newsgroups and information people pass on.
Every effort is taken to make the information accurate on this site (especially the handicap calculator). Mainly the information is through thorough research on our part and the professional golfing community.
Information is also updated as and when new data comes to light, or an error is pointed out.
- Do you know how many golfers are worldwide since 1990 to present?
It's difficult to predict how many golfers there are since 1990, however a rough breakdown of golfers can be shown as follows:
The World Golf League web site says that there are over 60 million golfers wordwide (25 million in the US alone)
The Chartered Society of Physiotherapy says that there are over 40 million golfers wordwide with 4.5 million golfers in the UK.
The best place to find out this information (or at least quite a bit) is The European Golf Association has a full breakdown of European golfers.
So in conclusion and additional information I have gleened from other sources I think (and this is by no means accurate) that the following is a good rule of thumb:
- Over 60 Million Worldwide Golfers
- Over 30 Million US Golfers
- Over 1.75 Million Australian Golfers
Over 4.2 Million European Golfers
In effect it's a very difficult task to work it out, and frankly I gave up, as different sources of this either wanted payment, or gave wild numbers compared to the others, I still am not sure if these figures are accurate, but my guess is they are more accurate than most (and even these are not complete!).
